17th Oct 2013

Dr. Mike Lynch, founder of Invoke Dr. Mike Lynch, founder of Invoke Capital, has won the 2013 Global University Venturing (GUV) Personality of the Year Award. The award was presented last night at the inaugural 2013 GUV Awards Summit at Baker Botts in London.

The award recognises Mike Lynch's ongoing commitment to the development of the technology sector, which was reinforced by the launch of his new investment fund, Invoke Capital in February 2013. Invoke is a new type of technology investor that combines detailed knowledge of technology with financial, commercial and marketing expertise to turn fundamental technology into real world products and help them achieve scale. Last month Invoke announced its first investment in cyber security company Darktrace, which is pioneering a new approach to cyber defence based on ground-breaking Bayesian mathematics developed at the University of Cambridge.

James Mawson, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Global Corporate Venturing and GUV, said:

"We felt fortunate to be holding our inaugural Global University Venturing Summit and Awards in the year that Mike Lynch formed Invoke Capital. His decision to use a lifetime of commercial success at Autonomy since taking his research out of Cambridge University and reinvest this knowledge, along with his time, energy, money and focus, into a venture capital firm dedicated to commercialising the amazing, disruptive technologies being created in Europe's academic institutions meant he was unanimously decided as this year's Personality of the Year. Congratulations to Mike, his team and, perhaps most importantly, the wonderful scientists and entrepreneurs who will now benefit from his capital, advice and help."

Mike Lynch presented the keynote address and said:

"Invoke brings a radically different solution to unlocking the potential of fundamental European technology and has a unique management team with a deep understanding of advanced technology. By applying these skills and experience to the advances in science and mathematics emerging from European universities, we believe we can add significant value for investors and portfolio companies. I am delighted to receive this award and for Invoke to be recognized for its genuinely innovative approach to creating real growth in the technology landscape."
